In March I led a field trip around west Cornwall for the A-Level geology group from Richard Huish College in Taunton.
Back in March I was asked to develop and run a geology field trip to west Cornwall for A-Level geology students from Richard Huish College in Taunton.
On the first day we visited Lizard Point to look at the old metamorphic rocks down there, before heading to the Moho (boundary between the Earth’s crust and mantle) exposed in the beach at Coverack!
On day two we went to Praa Sands to look at a range of geological processes, from granites and mineralisation to relatively recent Quaternary sediments.
During the trip we studied a range of rocks to uncover the stories they tell. I was really impressed by the students' work ethic and the range of skills they demonstrated.
A huge thank you to geology teacher Adele Bolt for inviting me to run the trip, and to the rest of the staff team for helping ensure it ran smoothly.
Another massive thank you to the brilliant students as well. It was great to meet you all, and a pleasure to show such a lovely group around a bit of the geology that Cornwall has to offer. I wish them all the best on their next endeavours.
