Cornwall Geologist Accessibility Statement
Cornwall Geologist is committed to ensuring services are as accessible as possible to all. The goal is to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience, whether taking part in activities or visiting the website. This statement outlines efforts made to meet accessibility standards whilst conforming with safety and ethical guidelines outlined in the Cornwall Geologist Health and Safety Policy and Safeguarding Policy.
Effective date:
Thursday 29th January 2026
1. Activity Accessibility
Cornwall Geologist endeavours to make its activities as accessible as possible, particularly with outdoor activities such as Geowalks and field trips.
A variety of activities will be offered that give access to people with a range of abilities, and each activity will have necessary information on accessibility so participants can make informed decisions.
While every effort is made to improve accessibility, some activities may have natural limitations due to terrain or location. For example, rocky foreshores, uneven footpaths, and longer walks may present issues for those with limited mobility or require mobility aids, health conditions that impact fitness, or visual impairments.

Accessibility is a primary consideration when Cornwall Geologist selects indoor venues for Geotalks or workshops. Every effort is made to ensure venues provides accessible facilities and necessary audio-visual aids. Where Cornwall Geologist is contracted by an external organisation to deliver a session, the responsibility for ensuring the venue meets all accessibility and legal requirements rests with that third party.
The key to improving accessibility and widen participation is communication:
-
Adjustment: In some circumstances reasonable adjustments can be made to activities to make them more accessible (e.g., shorter, alternative routes), or alternative, bespoke activities can be organised. Please contact Cornwall Geologist to enquire about this and ask for any additional information about activities (see Section 3).
-
Information: Cornwall Geologist provides necessary accessibility information for all activities on the website (e.g., length of walk, type of terrain) to allow participants to assess whether it is suitable for them. All activities will be mapped against a difficulty level to help with this assessment.
It is the responsibility of Cornwall Geologist to provide accessibility information as required for participants to make informed decisions.
However, it is the responsibility of the participant (or person acting on a participant’s behalf, e.g., carer, parent, or guardian) for assessing if they and anyone in their booking are in a suitable physical condition to take part in the activity.
Participants must inform Cornwall Geologist of any accessibility or health concerns before an activity takes place so advice can be given and any adjustments made. Participants must acknowledge accessibility guidelines by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions before booking an activity and making payment.
Cornwall Geologist reserves the right to refuse participation to anyone who may be at risk to themselves or others on an activity. No refunds will be issued to participants if they are unable to take part in or complete an activity, unless under exceptional circumstances.
2. Website Accessibility
Cornwall Geologist is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, and strives to continually improve user experience and apply relevant accessibility standards.
The website has been made using Wix.com and has been designed to provide as clear and concise navigation as possible. You should be able to:
-
Access alternative text for images and other non-text content.
-
Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings to enhance readability.
-
Zoom in up to 250% without the text spilling off the screen.
-
Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or assistive technologies.
-
Listen to most of the website using a screen reader.
-
Read website text that is made as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
The website scored 97% on a Lighthouse Accessibility Report in January 2026.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. While our latest audit shows a high accessibility score of 97%, we are aware of the following minor technical issues:
-
Heading Structure: Some heading elements are not currently in a sequentially-descending order, which may affect navigation for some screen-reader users.
-
Colour Contrast: Some text elements may currently have an insufficient contrast ratio against their background, which can affect readability for users with visual impairments.
-
Link Names: Some links or buttons do not have a discernible name, which can make navigation difficult for screen-reader users.
Cornwall Geologist is working to resolve these structural and visual layout issues as soon as possible. We welcome your feedback if you encounter a specific barrier before this time.

Cornwall Geologist remains committed to continuous improvement. We regularly review our content—including new images and layout updates—to ensure we maintain these high standards and provide an inclusive experience for all users.

Please get in contact if you encounter accessibility barriers on the website, or require information in a different format (see Section 3). Cornwall Geologist will get back to you within 5 working days.
