
Cornwall Geologist Code of Conduct
Cornwall Geologist is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and friendly environment for all. By upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct and taking proactive safety measures, we ensure that every participant is treated with respect, honesty, and integrity, regardless of background, identity, or ability. Participants are also expected to follow these safety and ethical standards, by adhering to the Cornwall Geologist Code of Conduct – SPREE:
Safety
The primary aim of any activity.
Always act in a safe manner to protect yourself and those around you.
Follow the Cornwall Geologist Health and Safety Policy, and the guidance of the activity leader and the safety information they provide.
If an emergency arises, notify the activity leader immediately and follow their directions.
Be conscious of potential hazards at all times, and follow the control measures in place.
Enjoy
Learn, explore, and discover. Engage in activities by asking lots of questions, getting to know other participants, and having fun!
Respect
Be courteous and polite to all, regardless of background, identity, or ability.
Do not disrupt activities or engage in improper behaviour. Always give way to others on footpaths. Avoid speaking over others and above ambient sound.
You are responsible for any person or pet under your care – keep them under control.
Do not participate under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
Plan
Ensure you know what to expect on an activity by reading all the information beforehand and plan ahead.
Ensure you bring the correct clothing and equipment.
When on an activity, follow the itinerary and guidance of the activity leader.
Be flexible to changing plans due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather.
Stay with the group at all times – don’t wander off and inform the activity leader if you need to leave.
Environment
Minimise our impact on the environment around us by following the Cornwall Geologist Environmental Policy and adhering to the motto:
“Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints”.
Dispose of all waste in proper bins, recycling when possible. This includes all food waste (even biodegradable items like fruit residue), and cigarette butts.
No sampling or hammering of geological material.
Leave landscapes as you found them.
All participants must confirm their understanding of this Code of Conduct and responsibilities before taking part in any activity. Participant responsibilities are:

Be conscious of the landscape and any hazards around you.

Follow instructions from the activity leader and this code of conduct.

Exercise common sense to ensure the safety of you and of others, and the environment around you.

Report any unsafe or inappropriate behaviour to the trip leader as soon as possible.
Participants are responsible for their own actions and involvement in an activity. Any form of unsafe actions, or discrimination, harassment, or misconduct will not be tolerated and will be dealt with promptly. Cornwall Geologist reserves the right to refuse participation to anyone who may be at risk to themselves or others on an activity or fails to comply with any of the rules outlined in this Code of Conduct. Any reports of misconduct will be investigated, and appropriate action will be taken, which may include removal from activities or further legal action.
