Want to learn more about geology on the go? Well now you can with the fabulous podcast – Geology Bites, by Oliver Strimpel!

Whilst I was running the OUGS field trip last week I had the honour of meeting Oliver Strimpel, the creator of the fantastic podcast series, “Geology Bites”.

Podcasts are as popular as ever at the moment. I find them brilliant. A great way of learning new things, keeping up on various news, and a lovely way of switching off without having to put on the television!

I am so pleased to find a geology themed podcast. Geology Bites episodes are around half an hour long, a perfect length if you struggle to find a lot of time to listen. I also like that they are a lot less colloquial than some podcasts. This is directed by Olivers fantastic questions around really interesting topics, and some great guests including Mike Searle, Richard Fortey, and Kathryn Goodenough.

Oliver Strimpel is an astrophysicist-turned-geologist, based in Boston in the US. It was great to meet him during the trip, and a real honour to show him around some of the geological gems we have here in Cornwall. I thoroughly enjoyed our discussions on Cornwall’s tectonic story and listening to his thoughts based on his research in the Himalayas.

I cannot recommend listening to Oliver’s podcast enough! You can access is via his website (https://www.geologybites.com/), and via all of the major podcast channels (Apple, Spotify etc.). What’s more, on his website he also provides additional material such as diagrams and other supporting documents for his various topics.

Thank you, Oliver, and keep up the fab work!
