Cligga Rocks!

The brand new Cligga Geowalk now available to book!

Cornwall is blessed with countless world-class geolocations. When I started designing Geowalks it was slightly overwhelming at the number of opportunities to show people the amazing geology Cornwall has to offer.

These Geowalks do take a bit of time to build. But this week I am pleased to announce a brand-new location where you can now book – Cligga.

Cligga Head is located in between Perranporth and St Agnes. Wandering along this amazing stretch of coast allows you to explore the spectacular geology where granites, mineralisation, and mining history take centre stage.

Cligga Head comprises of a granite “stock”, a smaller-scale intrusion. It is about 700 m long and about 300 m at its widest, trending N-S. It hosts a greisen-bordered sheeted vein complex, historically exploited for wolframite (tungsten) and cassiterite (tin).

The diverse geological processes on display along this stretch of coast have also generated a beautiful array of colours in the rocks. Fluids passing through fractures or the solid rock itself can change the chemistry and therefore minerals present.

This incredible stretch of coast doesn’t just display the amazing geology, but also hosts some fantastic mining history and archaeology. It is definitely a prime place for a Geowalk.

For a more visual overview of the Geowalk you can check out a video I made here back in the summer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myUL9PFp5Wc&t=179s

I am so excited to take people here! The geology is incredible, and you will not be disappointed. Book your place now, by visiting https://www.cornwallgeologist.co.uk/guided-walks

Alternatively, you can book a personalised, private group walk for you and your family and friends! Simply contact me by email (sam@cornwallgeologist.co.uk) to find out more. You can pick the time and place, and is a great way to getting people together (and possibly a great idea for a gift!).

I have a few more new Geowalk locations in the pipeline that I hope to make available to book in the next few months, so watch this space! To keep up to date with this, and any other Geowalk dates and activities from Cornwall Geologist, sign up to the Cornwall Geologist mailing list, and follow @cornwallgeologist on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
